The production

A production company shoots a drama series at a farm on peat land by a river: 60 crew, 14 trucks, a lighting crane, and a barn from 1932 as the set. A day of that crew is paid whether or not a frame is shot, so every risk below is counted in lost days.

Eight risks

A scout saw a beautiful farm. Each risk below is one the production had not thought of, and the third comes from another place: the open-air event that fills the week the venue's report counts full.

01 · The axle limit

A 10% · B 80%

The last three kilometres run on a water board's dyke under its keur: the forty-tonne lighting truck may not use it, and an exemption takes weeks. Lost days if it happens: 3.

02 · The yard's owner

A 5% · B 70%

The farmer does not own the yard: the Kadaster names a nature foundation as its owner, so the location agreement binds nobody; the owner's consent has its own conditions and lead time. Lost days if it happens: 2.

03 · The peat under the crane

A 60% · B 20%

The yard and the meadow are peat over clay: a thirty-tonne crane sinks without rig mats, and that week an open-air event twenty kilometres away may take the mats of the same few hire firms. Lost days if it happens: 1.

04 · The meadow closed until 1 July

A 95% · B 30%

The fields around the farm are managed for meadow birds: their mowing is deferred to 1 July, and until then nobody enters them and nothing flies over them, so the wide shots in the meadow are out. Lost days if it happens: 1.

  • No flight over them

05 · The barn's residents

A 55% · B 25%

The barn's roof is asbestos, so nothing is rigged to it; swallows and bats breed in it from March, so a scan is required and lighting at night may be forbidden. Lost days if it happens: 2.

06 · The neighbour's objection

A 15% · B 40%

The neighbouring farm objected to the farm's last three permits and won once at the Council of State; a filming permit's six-week objection window falls inside the preparation. Lost days if it happens: 3.

The area is full: no temporary connection before 2029, so the shoot runs on generators or batteries, with the permit generators need. Lost days if it happens: 0.5.

08 · The manure season

Slurry may go on grassland until 31 August; the fields around the farm are grassland, injected again after the first cut, and in June the tractors and the smell are in every take. Lost days if it happens: 1.

Each source carries a grade: a letter for how reliable the source is (A completely reliable to F, unknown) and a figure for how well the fact is confirmed (1 confirmed to 6, cannot be judged).

What the watch caught

The brief is the intelligence, and it is right on the day it is written. The places do not stand still after that, so the watch keeps the brief right until the day: each card is a fact that arrived after the brief, with the odds without the watch and with it.
